My Sesshomaru Character Analysis

I feel like discussing a lot of InuYasha on my blog this week, so I’ll kick it off with my own character analysis of Sesshomaru.

First, let me have my fangirl moment and admire this gorgeous demon-dog man.

KYAAHHH~!! The hair, the eyes, the demon-dog markings... Ahh, gotta love a good-looking anime/manga character.

Don’t Know Anything About Sesshomaru? Here’s Some Background Info

If you’re not familiar with Sesshomaru, or if it’s been a long time since you’ve seen InuYasha, let me give you some background info on him. Sesshomaru is one of the supporting characters in the anime and manga series, InuYasha, and he becomes a major part of the series’ story.

At first, Sesshomaru is seen as a cold, emotionless, and arrogant person. He’s a noble dog demon, and he’s Inuyasha’s half brother; they both are the sons of the Inu no Taisho, a famous and noble dog demon. Sesshomaru is one of those power-hungry characters, and he only lives to seek power and get stronger. In the InuYasha movie, InuYasha the Movie: Swords of an Honorable Ruler, it’s hinted that Sesshomaru challenged his father many times since the Inu no Taisho was powerful. Sesshomaru even wanted his father’s swords before the Inu no Taisho went off to his last battle. This shows that Sesshomaru greatly admired and respected his father. But, to Sesshomaru, showing emotion or attachment to anyone is a weakness.

InuYasha Anime Review

My InuYasha Anime Review!

Beware of spoilers.

InuYasha is one of those old, classic anime that many people grew up with, but I’m not one of them. I actually just completed the InuYasha series a few weeks ago, and I’m in my early 20s xD But it’s one of those anime series that I really needed to get to and watch because of how popular it was. So what I’ll be talking about in this anime review are listed here in the list of main points I’ll be discussing:

First Impressions of InuYasha

I. Loved. It. The reason? 1) Inuyasha’s adorable dog ears; 2) the demons/youkai theme; and 3) the setting of the anime, which is mostly in the Feudal Era of Japan. I love Japanese history, so the setting was just great! I also loved Inuyasha’s character design. I also enjoyed the whole blast-to-the-past thing where Kagome goes back 500 years. I thought that was such a cool aspect of the series, and it proves to be even more meaningful later on.

Here’s a little background on the InuYasha series if you’re not familiar with it: InuYasha is about a teenage girl, Kagome, whose family owns a sacred shrine. There’s a well that takes her back to the Feudal Era, and that’s where she meets Inuyasha. Inuyasha is binded to a tree because a priestess named Kikyo sealed him to the tree 50 years ago. Kagome has something called the Sacred Jewel that demons and humans want because it helps increase their powers and gives them their desires, and it’s later learned that Kagome is Kikyo’s reincarnation. After Kikyo seals InuYasha, she dies of an injury and takes the Sacred Jewel with her, and Kagome was unknowingly born with the Sacred Jewel. Even though it’s a span of 500 years, Inuyasha’s and Kagome’s fates were intertwined :O <insert dramatic music here>

The series picks up the pace after several episodes, but it’s still enjoyable to watch. Basically, the first 15 or so episodes are about Kagome and Inuyasha’s adventures as well as an introduction of the other major characters in the series. I loved the entire youkai theme going on, and the demons in the series are based on Japanese folktales, etc., too, so that’s an added bonus.
