First Impression

Within a couple of weeks, I completed the 51-episode Soul Eater anime series and wanted to do a review on it, so here I am! đŸ˜€ If you don’t know what “Soul Eater” is all about, here’s a brief summary: The series centers around a group of teenagers who attend an academy, Shibusen, where they learn and train to become pro Death Weapon Meisters. The students attending Shibusen are either a Death Weapon Meister or Weapons. For example, Maka, one of the main characters of the series, is a Death Meister while her partner, Soul, is her weapon; he can transform into a weapon for Maka to fight with. The Death Weapon Meisters’ goal is to get 100 souls to turn their weapon into a Death Scythe. There are few Death Scythes in the Soul Eater world, so, as you can imagine, it’s quite hard to accomplish.

Shibusen is actually a military organization that was created by Death or Shinigami-sama to prevent another Kishin from arising. There’s an existing Kishin or Death God underneath Shibusen, but a witch named Medusa releases the Death God, whose name is Asura, and all hell and madness breaks loose. This event becomes the starting point  of the main plot in the “Soul Eater” series.

Anyway, let’s get on with my first impression of the series. After seeing the first episode, which featured Maka and Soul trying to get the 100th soul they needed to turn Soul into a Death Scythe, I was just like… What the hell is this anime? The anime didn’t capture me at first. Except the cute kitty-witch person, Blair xD I didn’t like the artwork at first, either, but it grew on me after watching a few more episodes.

Although Maka and Soul are considered the main characters of the series, I didn’t like them as much as the other characters. I started liking “Soul Eater” more after watching the episode featuring Black Star and Death the Kid. I really liked these characters a lot more, and I’ll get into more detail about them and other characters I loved in the series later.

Even though the series wasn’t anything special to me at first, I still managed to watch the entire series, so let’s get into the nitty-gritty of my thoughts on “Soul Eater.”
